Key Bible Verse: I have brought the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I lived before them (Romans 15:18). Bonus Reading:Mark 10:2831
A church I know sent a young couple and baby to a remote tribal village in the Arctic for church-planting. Some members regarded such an assignment unworthy of their Hollywood good looks, winsome personalities, and obvious gifts. The mission pastor endured angry questioning at the audacity of it.
To its credit, the same congregation enthusiastically sends almost 200 short-termers all over the world every summer. But this young family wasn't coming right back. Were they to suffer any serious difficulty, I can picture the torrent of blame.
People in unreached communities need someone to live out the Truth in their world, speaking their language, sharing their angst, demonstrating the gospel.
On-the-ground, long-haul missionary service hasn't always been a radical idea. It once wasn't considered a big deal for a missionary family to move permanently to some foreign locale. Then we understood that security and missionary service are opposite ends of a spectrum. The Word who became flesh and dwelt among us still calls some to the same model. Only from such stout obedience will the task be completed.

Thought to Apply: I want to remind the committee that within six months they will probably hear that one of us is dead. Send someone else immediately to take the vacant place. Alexander Mackay (missionary to Uganda, 19th century)
