Key Bible Verses: "You are to take his message everywhere … And now, why delay?" (Acts 22:15–16). Bonus Reading: Acts 26:12–20

Ray was trained as a nautical engineer. Sandra was employed by the Seattle park district. As part of their regular church life, this couple participated in mission activities and education classes. One day they shared with me their dissatisfaction with their current careers and their growing interest in volunteering for cross-cultural ministry. Ray had just returned from a short-term mission in Haiti. This had turned his world upside down.

But Sandra wasn't so sure that what had turned Ray on spiritually was really what she desired. We met together often for discussion and prayer. One day Sandra expressed readiness to take her own risk! She signed up for a short-term mission experience independent of Ray. And during her time in Haiti she saw what God saw!

When Sandra returned, she and Ray now shared a genuine desire to return to Haiti for longer-term service. They gave their employers notice and developed their financial and spiritual support team. That was twelve years ago! They remain deeply committed to the people of Haiti, ministering to both their spiritual and physical needs.

—Art Beals in When the Saints Go Marching Out!

My Response: Am I in the process of discovering a personal ministry challenge?

Thought to Apply: We ought not to ask, "Can I prove that I ought to go?" but, "Can I prove that I ought not to go?" —C. H. Spurgeon (English Baptist pastor, 19th century)
