Theme of the Week: Duplicate Yourself

Key Bible Verse: But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you (2 Timothy 3:14). Bonus Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10–17

I challenged Bill to host our weekly early morning "Men's Fraternity" outreach. Bill was surprised but he accepted. Friends and strangers began calling him for appointments to talk about how to fill the emptiness in their lives.

One man who contacted him—divorced, estranged from his children, and with a failing business—was thinking of taking his life. "I'd been in some of those fixes," Bill said, "and could identify with him." Bill took him through a Bible study and saw him receive Christ. The man persuaded his wife to attend church with him, and she also received Christ. "They're now remarried, his business has turned around," Bill says, "and he's a tremendous witness."

Bill—just turned 60—says the last seven years have been the best of his life. His desire to help young men learn how to put God at the center of their lives is stronger than ever. He and some friends began "Sportsmen's Quest"—taking sons of single mothers on hunting and fishing trips for exposure to the influence of Christian men. "I think there's something about having gray hair," he says with a smile. "Younger men are looking for older men to guide them. I want to keep making myself available."

—Robert Lewis in The Church of Irresistible Influence

My Response: A younger guy I'd be open to guiding is …

Thought to Apply: A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. —Henry Adam
