I challenged Bill to host our weekly early morning "Men's Fraternity" outreach. Bill was surprised but he accepted. Friends and strangers began calling him for appointments to talk about how to fill the emptiness in their lives.
One man who contacted himdivorced, estranged from his children, and with a failing businesswas thinking of taking his life. "I'd been in some of those fixes," Bill said, "and could identify with him." Bill took him through a Bible study and saw him receive Christ. The man persuaded his wife to attend church with him, and she also received Christ. "They're now remarried, his business has turned around," Bill says, "and he's a tremendous witness."
Billjust turned 60says the last seven years have been the best of his life. His desire to help young men learn how to put God at the center of their lives is stronger than ever. He and some friends began "Sportsmen's Quest"taking sons of single mothers on hunting and fishing trips for exposure to the influence of Christian men. "I think there's something about having gray hair," he says with a smile. "Younger men are looking for older men to guide them. I want to keep making myself available."
