Key Bible Verse: As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God (2 Timothy 4:6). Bonus Reading:2 Timothy 3:1012; 4:68
Bob Evans was a freshman at the time of the Wheaton (Illinois) College Revival of 1936. He led its Foreign Missions Fellowship during his upper-class years. Following seminary training at Eastern Baptist, he responded to the call of his country when World War II broke out, entering the navy as a chaplain. He became the first navy chaplain, at his own request, allowed to leave the ships and accompany the army and marines in a landing on the beaches of southern France.
As he moved up and down the beaches on a motorcycle to minister to the wounded in a fierce battle, he hit a land mine and was nearly killed. His wounds were so serious that he had to be evacuated and finally returned to the United States. However, his vision to return to Europe after the war was burning in his heart. He did return to France with Youth for Christ and saw the tragic spiritual needs of that and other European countries. This led Bob Evans to become the key founder and director of Greater Europe Mission, which has established or cooperated with more than a score of Bible institutes and theological training centers throughout the Continent.
