Lord, Be Glorified
Theme of the Week: Praise the Lord!
Monday, November 18

Key Bible Verse: Whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, you must do all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Bonus Reading: 1 Peter 4:10–11

Back in 1977, Bob Kilpatrick and his wife, Cindy, had just begun their full-time music ministry, singing together as a duo. Because he'd been writing and performing since fourth grade, Bob was aware of his need for public approval. "I hoped, like all songwriters," he says, "that people would like my songs, and wrote with that in mind."

On this particular day, however, Bob was alone in his mother-in-law's living room while the rest of the extended family watched television elsewhere in the home, and his heart was focused on a very specific audience.

"I was sitting [there with] my guitar in my hands and my Bible open on my knees. As I read, I prayed that the Lord would help me write a song that Cindy and I could sing privately as our song of consecration to the ministry that lay before us."

"Lord, Be Glorified" began as it remains—a tender, personal statement to the Father.

"I think, in retrospect," Bob says, "that this lent a certain purity to the song. I was relaxed. I wasn't trying to impress anybody. I was free to write the simplest of melodies coupled with an equally simple prayer."

—Phil Christensen and Shari MacDonald in Our God Reigns

My Response: One way I am learning to praise God personally is …

Thought to Apply: In my life, Lord, be glorified, be glorified. In my life, Lord, be glorified today. —Bob Kilpatrick (lyrics reprinted by permission of author)

O Lord, You deserve my praise. Help me to offer it up to You and, as I do, experience Your blessing.
