Thank-full
Theme of the Week: Thanksgiving Is a Choice
Sunday, November 24

Key Bible Verses: Let them praise the Lord for … all his wonderful deeds to them. For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things (Psalm 107:8–9). Bonus Reading:1 Timothy 4:3–5

While half the people in the world are fighting starvation, we're blessed with food in abundance. There's a grocery store or restaurant on every street corner and a garden in most yards. Our government and churches have programs to feed the poor. We pass out free samples in stores and put more down our garbage disposals in a week than many people see in a month!

How have we handled the abundance? Personally, I've taken it for granted. Until I became a Christian, I never took time to be thankful for the food I ate. Although now I bow my head at each meal to ask God's blessing on the food, I don't know that I've ever experienced true thankfulness because I've never experienced true hunger.

My response to God's abundant provision has been to gorge myself—overloading my body with food. Now, I'm fighting to get some of it off. How foolish and ungrateful I've been. God does satisfy the thirsty and fill the hungry, but I'm sure He'd appreciate a little thanksgiving for the provision.
