Leapers and Creepers
Theme of the Week: Thanksgiving Is a Choice
Monday, November 25

Key Bible Verse: Let us continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God by proclaiming the glory of his name (Hebrews 13:15). Bonus Reading:Psalm 69:30–31

My friend Lane Adams says, "When I get up in the morning, I bump into all four walls and have to find a cup of coffee before I can get my eyes open." He claims there are two kinds of people in the morning: leapers and creepers. "And I'm a creeper," he says.

Whether you're a leaper or a creeper, there's something that can help make your personal time with God worthwhile—beginning with thanks and praise. They set the thermostat to the right temperature. They help kindle our emotions, help us enjoy what God gives, and help the rest of our praying.

Wherever we find ourselves, we're to give thanks for it. Even the bad, you ask? Yes! Paul reminds us over and over to give thanks for everything that happens.

It's easy to take the Lord for granted because His love, protection, provision, and forgiveness are so constant and unlimited. But when someone takes your efforts for granted, it leaves a sour taste. Don't give God sour grapes by only offering selective thanks.

In [today's Bonus Reading], David says that God not only desires sacrifices, but a heart of praise and thanksgiving.

—Peter Deison in The Priority of Knowing God

My Response: A circumstance for which I'm learning to thank God is …

Thought to Apply: Even the hen lifts her head toward heaven when swallowing her grain.

—African proverb
