Q&A with God
Theme of the Week: Our Incomparable God
Saturday, February 22, 2003

Q. How should I deal with my unanswered questions about God and His will?

A. Although the Bible is the completely reliable written Word of God, it doesn't reveal to us everything we may want to know. Some of our questions won't be answered this side of heaven.

Growing up, I asked my parents lots of questions. Most of the time, Mom and Dad didn't mind answering them. But if I asked "why?" when they told me to do something, they'd simply answer, "Because I said so." Sometimes we have to do things simply because those in authority have told us to. It's the same with our ultimate authority. When God tells us to do something and we ask why, sometimes He tells us, but sometimes the answer comes back, "Because I'm God and I know best." Then we need to simply obey and lay our faith in the ultimate wisdom of our heavenly Father.

I don't believe it's a sin to ask a respectful "why?" when God gives us a directive through the written Word or through a personal calling. But when we don't receive an answer that satisfies us, we shouldn't be paralyzed from obedience. We need to cling to our faith in God, obey, and realize He has our best interest and His own glory in mind. We need to move out in faith and obedience, knowing that His purposes will be served when we do as He tells us.

Go ahead! When you have a question for God, ask it!

But remember that sometimes the answer will be nothing more than "Because I'm God, and I said so."
