Scratching Vinyl Theme of the Week: What's Wrong with the World? Lynn Anderson Thursday, January 16, 2003

Key Bible Verse: We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the guilt and sins of us all (Isaiah 53:6). Bonus Reading:John 14:21-24
J. Wallace Hamilton said that one day he heard horrible noises coming from the backyard. He peeked out his window to see two boys experimenting with an antique record player. They'd bored an extra hole in the old platter record, adjacent to the factory hole, but off-center. When they played the record on their off-center hole, it poured out a cacophony of dissonant squawks and screeches. However, when they picked up the record and plopped it on the hole in the center, the old platter filled the air with a harmonic symphony of beautiful music.
Life is like that. When we attempt to live with self at the center rather than God, our hearts become flooded with disharmony and discord. Ignoring God's design for our lives and making up our rules for the game is what the Bible calls sin!
At the feet of Jesus, the Master Musician, we encounter acceptance, forgiveness, and changea harmonious alternative to the dissonance of our pain and brokenness. The Master Conductor plays for us a balanced symphony of compassion and correction. This is what we get when life's music is played from the solid center.

My Response: An area of my life for which I've made up my own rules is.
Thought to Apply: The essence of all immorality and sin is making ourselves the center around which we subordinate all interest.
