Good to See You? Theme of the Week: Can You Relate? John Sloan Tuesday, January 7, 2003
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: How can you claim that you have faith in
Christ if you favor some people more than others? (James 2:1). Bonus Reading:James 2:2-9
I stood outside our church auditorium on a recent Sunday. A person involved in the church leadership came walking briskly by, looked right at me with a blank expression, and kept on going out the back door. Busy with the day's activities, I'm sure. The door to the auditorium opened again, and out walked a businessman I knew who looked over the top of my head. The look of recognition in his eyes told me he'd connected with someone behind me. I didn't bother to pull my hand out of my pocket for a shake as he strode by mumbling "hi" and brushing against my shoulder.
I walked over to the donut table and started to get a cup of coffee when I ran into my friend Mark. It's hard for him to hold a coffee cup still, or pick it up or put it down with ease. But the minute Mark saw me he greeted me with enthusiasm and did everything he could to get that cup down onto the table so he could shake my hand.
Mark isn't the guy everyone gathers around after the church service is over. He isn't an elder or meshed into the thick of community activities. But Mark wants to be with me. And I want to be with him.

My Response: Which of the above would I seem like to a bystander?
Thought to Apply: My friend is one
who takes me for what I am.
