A Christian salesman friend was attending a dealers' convention in New York City. On a free evening he was waiting for a car with others to see some of the city's sights. But he got into the wrong car. These salesmen were not headed for the tourist attractions but for a famous swinging bar. Before my friend knew his mistake, they were on the way with no turning back.
Upon entering the bar, each man was immediately joined by a girl who took him by the arm and led him to a table. His girl was saucy, pert, and dressed seductively.
"As the evening continued, the temptation was like a steamroller," he told me later. "This girl was luscious. I had all I could do to keep from grabbing her and taking her to one of the back rooms. But the thing that held me and protected me—the only thing—was that before I had left home, I had told my wife that I was hers alone, and that regardless of any enticements, we belonged to each other and we would be praying for each other."
At the time of temptation there is too much emotion. His decision made ahead of time, and confirmed at the time of temptation, was what saved him.
