Who's Due to Change?
Theme of the Week: Family Reality Check
Thursday, March 6

Key Bible Verse: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed (James 5:16). Bonus Reading: 1 John 1:8–10

One day I got a letter from a Christian man who seemed to judge me and criticize me no matter what I did. I was furious. I brought it home and showed it to my wife. "How in the world can I answer this?" I grumbled.

She made several suggestions that I disposed of quickly because I didn't think she understood this man's devious nature. Finally she said, "Why don't you admit to God that you have no love in your heart for this man and ask Him to change you?"

"That's ridiculous!" I shouted, and stomped out of the room to read the evening paper until dinner was ready.

Saying prayers with my daughter that night, I had to face what I knew God had been trying to say to me through my wife. I asked God's forgiveness and asked Him to change me. My daughter concluded her prayers by saying, "Lord, You know that Dad's a difficult man to change, yet we know You can do it. I ask You to give him Your love for this man."

This isn't the role I'd have chosen in my home. I'd rather be the teacher, prophet, and authority. But lately I've begun to enjoy being a learner with my family at the feet of Jesus.

—Bruce Larson in The Edge of Adventure

My Response: A lesson I've learned recently in my family is …

Thought to Apply: The home should be … a kind of school where life's basic lessons are taught, and a kind of church where God is honored. —Billy Graham (evangelist)
