No Job Too Small Theme of the Week: Marks of a Servant Erwin Raphael McManus Sunday, March 30, 2003
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: We tell you this as Christ's servants, and we know that God is listening. Everything we do, dear friends, is for your benefit (2 Corinthians 12:19). Bonus Reading:2 Corinthians 11:23-29
You can talk all day long about the importance of servanthood and service; or you can work from the pattern of Jesus and exalt those who humble themselves, giving positions of greatness to those who are willing to be the least in the kingdom.
I noticed Eric Bryant while I was coming to church early one day. He was wearing an orange vest and directing traffic. Every time I saw this guy, he was doing some kind of service. I kept hearing stories about this guy named Eric. Whatever the task, he seemed to volunteer. Nothing was too humble, insignificant, or unrewarding.
I talked to him for the first time at a beach party. I asked him to tell me about himself and what his interests and passions were. Before the conversation was over, I had asked him if he would be our youth pastor. I never looked at a résumé and didn't call for references. But as I explained to him, I'm a sucker for servanthood. His servant's heart was a story I wanted to tell and a pattern we wanted to reproduce.
