Key Bible Verse: I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word (Psalm 119:67). Bonus Reading:Jeremiah 31:18-19

Jack had been involved in an affair with a co- worker for several years but finally broke it off. God had used several events to get Jack's attention, including the loss of his business. Although the affair was over, Jack still suffered the effects of a failed business and a broken trust with his wife.

"If God's truly forgiven me," he asked me, "why do I keep suffering the consequences of my sin?"

"Jack," I responded, "how likely are you to get involved with another woman?"

"Every time I see another woman I want to run in the other direction. I never want to endure that pain again."

"Do you think you'd feel that way if you hadn't had this affair and suffered the consequences?"

"No. I've always been kind of a flirt and had trouble in my moral life."

"So, in a way, this whole experience has inoculated you against any future affair?"

"I never thought of it that way, but I guess you're right."

"Then why not thank God for allowing you to go through that experience without losing your family. You can even thank Him for your failed business and less-than-perfect marriage, since those consequences gave you a distaste for any future affairs."

—Robert Jeffress in Say Goodbye to Regret

My Response: I'll thank God for curing me of. …

Thought to Apply: The cost of obedience is small compared with the cost of disobedience.

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, help me move beyond "have to" to "want to" in relating to Your commands.
