Evicted Theme of the Week: Testing Positive Luder Whitlock Jr. Sunday, August 10, 2003

Key Bible Verse: Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions (1 John 3:18). Bonus Reading:1 John 3:14-19
Matthew Allen battled AIDS for all of his 13 years as a result of a blood transfusion given to his mother during her pregnancy. When his father, Scott, on the staff of a church in Colorado, first learned of this disaster, he told his senior pastor, expecting to receive his support. Instead, he was fired immediately. Matthew was removed from the church's day care center. The family was told to find another church.
When the family moved to another state, church after church refused to enroll Matthew in Sunday school. They were afraid that accepting an AIDS child would scare off members and prospective members. Eventually, the family quit attending church and expressed no desire to return. When young Matthew was asked about it, he replied, "They kicked me out."
To measure God's love in our lives, we must examine our relationships. When we love others, we put them first, not ourselves. We think of what's best for them. In spite of being hurtor the fear of being hurtby them, we persevere.
