Theme of the Week: Nice Recovery!

Key Bible Verse: After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you (1 Peter 5:10). Bonus Reading:1 Peter 5:5-9

Interesting things began to happen. Bags of groceries were left at the front door. Sunday school classes donated furniture. A Nashville songwriter, Jon Mohr, gave the Smallbones—no strings attached—a three-month-old Toyota Previa van.

Meanwhile, family members took on odd jobs. Rebecca, the oldest, and two brothers raked leaves and mowed lawns. She also baby-sat and helped her mom clean houses.

Then Forefront Records heard a demo tape of Rebecca singing and offered the 15-year-old a recording contract. Taking an old family name for the stage, Rebecca recorded her first album, and the family made plans for her concert tour. Knowing they needed bigger wheels, Jon Mohr traded the Previa for a Chevy 15-passenger van. Awestruck by his generosity, David offered Jon 50 percent of the money Rebecca earned from writing songs.

Today, Rebecca St. James has become one of the hottest Christian artists in America. Meanwhile, Jon Mohr and his family left the music industry to become missionaries in the Ukraine. The Smallbones's twice-a-year royalty checks help support their ministry. All along God knew what he was doing!

My Response: A situation I need to trust God for is …

Thought to Apply: It is not your business to succeed, but to do right; when you have done so, the rest lies with God.

—C. S. Lewis (British scholar, writer)

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, don't allow failure to paralyze me. Let me hang on to You until I experience Your deliverance.
