Key Bible Verse: The disciples just sat there in awe. "Who is this?" they asked themselves. "Even the wind and waves obey him!" (Matthew 8:27). Bonus Reading:Matthew 8:23-26
In 1993, I became president of a small seminary in Canada. Students were few, resources scarce, and facilities limited. But with mostly retired volunteer labor we began building a new academic building.
On the morning the trusses were to be hung, a wind unusually forceful, even for the Rocky Mountain foothills, was blowing. The men had to hold on to their hats to keep them from blowing off. As the volunteers gathered to pray, they knew our situation was serious. It was too dangerous to hang the trusses with the wind blowing that way. We'd rented an expensive crane that was quickly consuming our dwindling building funds. To delay hanging the trusses would throw the entire volunteers schedule into disarray. At the close of the prayer time, the men stepped outsideto an eerie calm. Not a trace of wind! For the next three days, while the trusses were hammered into place, not even a breeze was felt. As the last two trusses were hung, the wind returned and, as the last nail was hammered, the wind was back to full strength.
