Key Bible Verse: Everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News (Philippians 1:12). Bonus Reading:Philippians 1:1-14, 20, 27

The parents of a 21-year-old son injured in a car accident met me in the Intensive Care Unit waiting room. There they introduced me to a friend of their son, also visiting. The parents spoke about the many who'd called or sent messages saying they were praying. They kept directing their comments, I noticed, to their son's friend, who didn't participate in the discussion herself. The couple were testifying to the young woman, I realized, by what they chose to discuss. There were using their own trial to make sure this friend knew of their God.

Later, the mother asked me if I remembered a German exchange student who had stayed with them a couple of years earlier. I remembered the polite young man who attended church services, looking bemused. She told me that when he heard of the accident, he flew to their home, and was there as calls and prayer messages poured in from near and far. The Christian response awed him.

"Nothing like this would happen in my home," he said. The mother asked if he wanted to know why it was happening. He said yes. Then she again explained the hope of the gospel to him. [Continued 7/29]

My Response: I'll keep alert for occasions to credit my source of hope.

Thought to Apply: A saint is someone whose life makes it easier to believe in God.

—William Barclay (Scottish pastor, writer)
