I marveled at the faithfulness of this couple who knew that their trial was an opportunity for the providence of God to work in other hearts. Their unrestrained gratitude for the support from friends blessed me, but my greatest amazement came as I was leaving the ICU.
A man spoke to me while we were waiting for the elevator. "Are you a neighbor of those people?" he asked, nodding his head toward the family I'd just visited.
"No," I said, "I'm just a friend."
"Those are some special people," he said. "Their son's accident happened only half a block from my home."
I said, "Oh, it was really thoughtful of you to come all this way to visit after just meeting the family that way."
"You don't understand," he said. "I didn't come to see them. A couple of nights after their son was in his accident, the same thing happened to my daughter. She's here, too."
Then he added, "I don't know if I could have made it without those people praying for us. It's only because I know that they understand what my family's going through that I've been able to believe what they've been telling me."
