Party U
Theme of the Week: Army of One
Tuesday, September 30

Key Bible Verse: Some of you were just like that, but now … you have been set apart for God (1 Corinthians 6:11). Bonus Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:9–20

Rudy Carson set off for college with a scholarship, an old sedan, and a stack of condoms. The state university he'd attend was the "number-one party school" in the country, and he intended to join the party. Rudy would get so far, maybe make love to a young woman, and end up feeling pretty dissatisfied. The party lifestyle wasn't all that great.

Then Rudy met some students marching to a different Drummer. One of these, Karen, was really beautiful. Rudy became a Christian during his first semester. He'd never had a friendship with a woman like Karen. She was fully committed to the lordship of Christ in her life. Her friendship with Rudy had scriptural boundaries and dynamics he didn't understand.

Rudy drew me aside after a campus fellowship meeting one evening to talk. He began by saying, "I need to know the rules. I really like Karen. I've had sex before and never felt about a woman what I feel about Karen. I haven't even touched Karen, and I care for her so much! But I need to know what's okay and what isn't. I haven't been a Christian long, and I'm beginning to realize things are really different." [continued 10/1]

My Response: How has becoming a believer changed how I approach romance?

Thought to Apply: A man making up to anybody can be altogether charming. But when he is really in love, he can't help looking like a sheep. —Agatha Christie (writer)
