Theme of the Week: A Different Way to Lead

Key Bible Verse: I want to use the authority the Lord has given me to build you up, not to tear you down (2 Corinthians 13:10). Bonus Reading:2 Corinthians 10:1-11; 11:7-9, 18-21a; 12:14-15

"I know battling the interference tonight killed you," our music director said, "but I want you to know that Milton suffered a hundred times more. He so wanted to correct the hiss, but that was impossible without shutting down all the amps and replacing the faulty one. He couldn't do a thing except hurt with you the whole service."

I've never felt anger melt away so quickly. With his ability, it must have felt like his worst nightmare. I walked up to Milton, who braced himself for a reprimand. Instead, I threw my arms around him and thanked him for hurting with me. I thanked him for his heart and reminded him that God still did His work, despite the distraction.

Tears welled up in his eyes. I've never seen someone so motivated to remedy a problem. He stayed past 2:00 A.M. till the rental company owner brought in a replacement amp. Milton later gave his heart to Christ; a year later we hired him on staff.

I shudder to imagine the devastating effect my misguided authority could have caused. My scathing rebuke would have crushed Milton's spirit and driven him away from making a decision for Christ.

—Wayne Cordeiro in The Dream Releasers

My Response: A time I responded to patience and appreciation was …

Thought to Apply: If they can see you love them, you can say anything to them.

—Richard Baxter (English Puritan)
