Meditation Motivation Theme of the Week: Internalizing God's Word O.M. Arabian Peninsula Sunday, September 21, 2003

Key Bible Verse: I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Bonus Reading:Psalm 119:1-24
One of the most honored persons in Islam is the man who has memorized the Muslim scriptures [notes the newsletter, and goes on to give an example of what we are up against].
In the United Arab Emirates, "prisoners who memorize the entire Holy Qur'an will have their term reduced by 15 years"; reported an article in the Gulf News, "10 years for those who learn 20 chapters; 5 years for memorizing 10 chapters; and 1 year for learning 5 chapters."
These Muslims clearly see the value of memorization. During times of persecution, Christiansincluding prisonershave often been greatly encouraged by remembering portions of the Bible previously memorized. Prisoners have found hope and perseverance in verses they've made part of their lives. An old middle eastern pastor had been jailed for his faith. After his release, he challenged his youth group to memorize the Gospels. At the end of the training period they recited the four Gospels! We don't fully own the Bible we have on the shelf. The Bible we really own is the one we've committed to memory.
