Living On-Target
Theme of the Week: Going for Broke
Christopher Crane & Mike Hamel
Wednesday, September 3, 2003

Key Bible Verse: I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: … I strain to reach the end of the race (Philippians 3:13). Bonus Reading:Phil. 3:12-14

Albert Black's strategy has been to exceed expectations at every level, starting with the basics: "When you say you're going to do something, do it. When you have an appointment, show up on time. When anybody does anything for you, say 'thank you.' And when somebody helps you, always ask, 'What can I do for you?'"

The mayor of Dallas has named Albert a "Top Talent" professional. He's won the 30th Congressional District Award for outstanding achievement in business, and received the Quest for Success Award from the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce.

Asked how a kid from the projects could accomplish so much, he replies, "How could I have not done it? I've got an extraordinary faith in an awesome God. I believe His promise that everything will be all right if I trust Him. That makes life easy for me."

At 43, Albert's living out his dream every day. "I've been blessed with a clarity of faith that has never wavered," he says. "God has called me to be an entrepreneurial leader in the communities of which I'm a part, and I know that what I'm doing is making a difference. Not just for today but for eternity."

—Christopher Crane & Mike Hamel in Executive Influence

My Response: Is what I am doing making a difference? Could it be?

Thought to Apply: Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.

—Booker T. Washington (educator, slave-born)
