What Prepped Kurt Warner
Theme of the Week: Step-at-a-Time Guidance
Monday, December 29, 2003

Key Bible Verse: It is God's way of preparing us … fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do (2 Timothy 3:17). Bonus Reading:2 Timothy 3:14-17

St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner talked with host Chuck Swirsky, in a 2002 Sports Spectrum Radio interview, about how God had directed his life for use in an extraordinary way.

"This isn't how I had it planned," he said. "I didn't want to work in a grocery store then go to Amsterdam and play in the Arena League. But as I look back over my life, I realize that I had a lot of maturing to do. I had a lot of growing in my faith.

"Actually my time in the Arena League was what brought me to know Jesus as Savior and ask Him into my life. And then my time in Amsterdam [in NFL Europe], away from the people who influenced me in my faith, was probably the greatest time of maturing I've ever had. I had to dive into the Word and prayer and lean on God because it was a situation I knew I couldn't handle on my own.

"So every step along the way I realize now that it was a preparation stage for what He's putting us through now. Had I not been grounded and matured, I don't think I ever could have been able to handle this the way I have. I might have gotten lost in the shuffle with all the fame and fortune and notoriety."

—Sports Spectrum

My Response: How is my current situation maturing me?

Thought to Apply: If [God] has you sidelined for awhile, He knows what He's doing. Just stay faithful, flexible, available, humble.

0Prayer for the Week

Sovereign Lord, teach me to trust You for the next step, even when I can't see the big picture.
