Cornerback's Corner—3
Theme of the Week: The Buddy System
Friday, December 5, 2003

Key Bible Verse: I'm eager to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours (Romans 1:12). Bonus Reading:2 Corinthians 2:14-16

Tommi saw the difference in Troy. "We had an encounter with the Lord [at the conference], and Troy did an internal check on himself. He changed a lot as a husband and father. Everyone else changed from him changing. Things got in order."

Connie, likewise, saw the difference in Brian. "He didn't look at anything the same any more, as a father, as a husband—everything was different in a good way. He really got deeper into the Word."

"What really matters," Troy says, "is being heads of households, being good stewards of the money that God's given us, being examples, building up people, and being there for them." His Troy Vincent Foundation provides education and other services to young adults in trouble with the law.

In their dual witness, "Troy's no-nonsense," says Tommi. "He just says what he has to say. But Brian comes along and makes the package look pretty. There's such a wonderful balance there."

Brian agrees. "I'll share the gospel, but Troy's more in your face. Then I come along and bandage the wound after he cuts you so deep. God brought us together here for a reason. We know that."

—William Campbell in Sports Spectrum

My Response: I'll ask God to use a friend to force the pace of my growth.

Thought to Apply: I now realize that I need regular contact with a friend who keeps me close to Jesus and continues to call me to faithfulness.

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, I need a serious believer to regularly challenge me to grow. Help me initiate that kind of relationship.
