Theme of the Week: Finding God's Frequency

Q. What if staying focused on God is a struggle?

A. At times, we've all found our minds wandering during worship. We may have some pressing life issue before us, or we may just be wondering what we'll have for lunch or whether our favorite football team is ahead. What distracts us isn't nearly as important as what it distracts us from. When we enter into God's courts to worship Him, we're to leave behind all of life's distractions—both the big and the little—and give Him our undivided attention.

Worship that comes from a divided, distracted heart isn't true worship at all. In fact, it's an insult to God. True worship means yielding ourselves in total adoration for an all-holy, all-loving, all- awesome God. I must come with a heart that's ready to meet with Him, engage Him, and enjoy Him.

How do you deal with it?

I was sitting in church during the worship service one recent Sunday morning. I was "doing" the right things. I was singing the songs and participating in the responsive reading. But my mind and heart were elsewhere. I was distracted. My focus wasn't on honoring my Lord with worship.

Suddenly, God got my attention. You know the feeling: You're minding your own business when God taps you on the shoulder and says, "Excuse me, but could I get you to focus on Me for a bit?"

After the service, I confessed my sin and asked God to forgive me. I thanked Him for getting my attention, and asked Him to give me a renewed focus in worship.

0Prayer for the Week

O Lord, keep the world from filling my life, leaving no space for hearing and delighting in You.
