Plotting or Plodding?
Theme of the Week: Step-at-a-Time Guidance

Key Bible Verses: Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer… . Teach me to do your will (Psalm 143:8, 10). Bonus Reading:Acts 16:4-12

As a college freshman I grew unhappy with the school I was attending, and prayed for guidance. After-ward I felt I should enroll in Columbia Bible College, and did. While there, I had no idea what vocation I'd be entering, but having prayed and sought the counsel of others, I decided to go to graduate school. When an opportunity opened to travel in New Eng-land one summer, speaking at churches and camps, I went. One night at a camp somewhere in Vermont, I slipped a canoe onto the lake and paddled in the moonlight, praying and seeking God's will. That evening the Lord whispered in my ear that He wanted me in the pastorate.

After Katrina and I were married, no church offered us a position, so I took an interim job at Sears. By and by, a little church in the country hired us, followed a few years later by a church in suburban Nashville, where we've been for more than 20 years.

Whenever I haven't known what to do, I've just taken the next logical step by faith. To find God's will, I've learned, plodding beats plotting.

—Robert J. Morgan in The Red Sea Rules

My Response: What next logical step do I need to take by faith?

Thought to Apply: In this life, we shouldn't look much past lunch, because that's as far out as we can know for certain. —source unknown

0Prayer for the Week

Sovereign Lord, teach me to trust You for the next step, even when I can't see the big picture.
