Q. How should I go about determining God's will?

A. First, realize that God isn't playing hide-and-seek with you. If you want to know God's will for your life, it'll become clear. In fact, He wants you to know His will more than you do. The primary condition for discovering it is living in fellowship with Him with your sins confessed.

Second, go to the Word of God. God will never lead you to do what contradicts His Word. Be careful. It's amazing how we can use the Scrip-tures to justify what we want to do. Don't let your desire cause you to make the Bible say more or less than it says. Let God speak for Himself through His Word.

Third, check the circumstances and patterns in your life. Often, God will so orchestrate the events in our lives that it's fairly obvious what He wants us to do.

Fourth, trust God to lead you through prayer. God hears us through prayer and responds to us because of prayer. Have you taken the time to ask God to show you what He wants you to do? James tells us, "The reason you don't have what you want is that you don't ask God for it" (4:2).

Fifth, solicit the counsel of wise, godly people. "Fools think they need no advice, but the wise listen to others" (Proverbs 12:15). Don't look for those who'll tell you what you want to hear. Seek out balanced, objective people. Listen carefully to their advice and pray over it.

If you've gone through this process with a sincere desire to know God's will, you can make a confident decision. Then go for it, and don't look back.

0Prayer for the Week

Sovereign Lord, teach me to trust You for the next step, even when I can't see the big picture.
