Take a few minutes and recall some people the Lord has used for good in your life. Who has helped you become who you are today? And then choose to get into relationship with someone you trust who can help you overcome your foremost deadly character defect. Associate with people who will help you, not hinder you. God has someone in mind to help you overcome your tendency to a particular sin.

Find that person—someone who has a mature walk with the Lord, someone you consider to be a mentor in the faith—and work with him. Admit to that person that you have a problem. As you actually hear yourself describe your behavior, you may realize what you are doing and why you are acting the way you are.

Pursue progress, not perfection. Life is about process. None of us is ever going to arrive at perfection, but all of us are called to move closer to it. Keep in mind always that God is with you, and He loves you no matter where you are in your life and no matter what you are struggling with. God will never give up on you. He isn't a quitter. He is in for the long haul.
