Key Bible Verse: Sensible people keep their eyes glued on wisdom, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth (Proverbs 17:24). Bonus Reading:Matthew 6:7–13
A wise person, [today's Key Bible Verse] says, aims for a goal, but a fool goes off in many directions. Focus your concern. Focus your prayers.
Don't just say, "Lord, I admit I have a problem with anger. Please remove it from my life." Break down that prayer into short, specific requests: "Tomorrow, between 9 and 11 o'clock, I'm going to be in a business meeting, and usually in this particular meeting I let everyone there 'have it.' God, please replace my anger with humility and love. Help me to make my points without raging at those present." That's a laser prayer.
Don't just pray, "God, please remove lust from my life." Instead, pray, "Heavenly Father, I have a date tonight that will probably last from 8 o'clock to midnight. Please help me see her as a whole person who matters to You and not as an object to be used."
Don't just pray, "God, help me overcome my greed." Get the laser fired up. Pray, "Father, I'm going to the mall tomorrow with a friend. Please help me to admire the attractive things I see without feeling I have to own them."
Be specific about what you desire for God to do for you.
