'You're Kidding!' Theme of the Week: Serving with a Passion Robert Lewis Friday, March 19, 2004
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well (Romans 12:6). Bonus Reading:Romans 12:3–8
For too long the church has tried to turn people into something they aren't. It only fuels their fears of inadequacy. Better to go with the grain, harness their natural passions, and transform who they are into ministry.
I had breakfast with an advertising executive who was fairly new at Fellowship Bible Church. "I'm not a church guy," he said rather emphatically. "I can give money, but I have no interest in ushering. Don't ask me to teach, either. I tried that in my previous church."
"Sounds like you've exhausted all your options," I said with a smile. "So, what do you want to do?"
"What I'm doing right now," he replied. "Contracting and producing high-quality advertising."
"Ever thought of doing that for the church?" I asked.
"You're kidding!" he said.
"I'm not! Why not help us speak to the community with 30-second sermons?"
An excitement of possibility and expectation led, two years and several tv commercials later, to an impact on our community (one made front-page headlines). And our church won an advertising award, an "Addy."

My Response: How can I use something I do well to positively engage our community?
Thought to Apply: Every kind of service necessary to the public good becomes honorable by being necessary.
