If someone were to ask, game-show style, for the real you to stand up, which "you" would pop up first?
Would it be the person who goes with the title on your business card? Would it be the husband and dad? Would it be the sports fan or hobby enthusiast? Would it be the church ministry volunteer?
In today's Scripture, the apostle Paul writes about the overriding motivation that integrated all he did.
Interact with God's Word
2 Corinthians 5:9—10, 14—17
How can you tell if you are sincerely working at pleasing Christ? What former motivations should take a "back seat" for you now that love for Christ is the controlling factor?Has understanding your own identity changed how you evaluate others? How should it?As a believer, how have I become a new person? What aspects of my old life have vanished? What new elements have replaced them?Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God to enlarge your understanding of your identity in ways that will inject a new sense of meaning and purpose into your life.
2 Corinthians 5:9—10, 14—17
9So if we stay here on earth or go home to Him, we always want to please Him. 10For all of us must stand before Christ when He says who is guilty or not guilty. Each one will receive pay for what he has done. He will be paid for the good or the bad done while he lived in this body.
14For the love of Christ puts us into action. We are sure that Christ died for everyone. So, because of that, everyone has a part in His death. 15Christ died for everyone so that they would live for Him. They should not live to please themselves but for Christ Who died on a cross and was raised from the dead for them.
16So from now on, we do not think about what people are like by looking at them. We even thought about Christ that way one time. But we do not think of Him that way anymore. 17For if a man belongs to Christ, he is a new person. The old life is gone. New life has begun.
