Pinned to the Mat Theme of the Week: 'Can You Hear Me?' Kenny Luck Wednesday, June 2, 2004
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: "When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the Lord. And my earnest prayer went out to you" (Jonah 2:7). Bonus Reading:Jonah 2:1—9
When I went out for wrestling at Miller Junior High, the importance of avoiding being pinned was drilled into us. We practiced for hours on countermoves to every pinning combination another guy could throw at us. I'll never forget the coach pointing to a sign on the gym's ceiling: "If you can read this sign, you are a fish." "Fish" was wrestle-speak for immobile, pinned.
God sometimes uses crises in the lives of men, their close relationships, their business ventures, their careers, their health, and their families to bring them to a desperate place, forced to read the sign and make a choice. Why would God do it this way? He knows us. He knows that most men won't change until the pain of their circumstances exceeds the pain of change.

My Response: How has God pinned you, or a friend, to the mat?
Thought to Apply: A season of suffering is a small price to pay for a clear view of God.
