Key Bible Verse: I love God's law … But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind (Romans 7:22–23). Bonus Reading:Rom. 7:15–25
The song I heard on the radio reminded me of a girlfriend from my pre-Christian life—the one I was most serious with before meeting my wife. A fantasy siren song began calling in my mind … the ex-girlfriend … the opportunity …
That same week—after not hearing from her in more than 11 years—she called! Turns out she now lives about 15 minutes from my house.
Fortunately, after hearing the song on the radio (but beforeS my ex-girlfriend's unexpected call), I'd shared what was happening in my thought life with a Christian brother. We looked at some Scriptures together and talked through the issue. Taking that accountability measure, was crucial to saving me from destruction on the rocks.
When her call came, it ended harmlessly enough. Thankfully, my ex is now simply a sister in Christ. We lead comfortably separate lives.
A mentor once told me, "Expect wrong thoughts to come, but never act on a thought that goes against the Word and commitments you've made. Act on getting accountable ASAP." Don't listen to those questionable thoughts, even for a couple of days. Listen to what God is telling you about them.
