Last Resort Theme of the Week: 'Can You Hear Me?' Terry Paulson Monday, May 31, 2004

Key Bible Verse: "Be silent, and know that I am God!" (Psalm 46:10). Bonus Reading:Lamentations 3:20–33
The resort was located in a wooded area far from any city, and my travel plans required that I arrive a day be-fore my presentation. After wheeling my luggage into my room, it hit me. What? No TV? No Headline News? How was the world going to get along without me knowing what was happening? I explored the room further. More bad news—no phone or internet jack for my computer! This was no resort; it was more like a prison.
Slowly I realized that I was trapped with myself … in silence. I'd gotten comfortable with noise and distractions in my life. My TV was often on for background noise. My computer connection to the internet provided a constant reminder of a to-do list that wouldn't go away. But this time I could create no distractions.
This particular day was a Sunday, and I hadn't had time to attend services because of my early morning flight. I sat on my bed and pulled out the Gideon Bible. God and I had time together that afternoon. My prison was turned into a prism that reflected new patterns of God's light into my room. In the silence of solitude, great things from God grow; they often grow deep.
