Soul Treasures Theme of the Week: Ambition Dallen Peterson Friday, August 27, 2004

Key Bible Verse: How do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul? (Matthew 16:26). Bonus Reading:Matthew 16:21—25
Selling our Merry Maids franchise business in the summer of 1988 for $25 million wasn't the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for Glennis and me. It didn't change who we are or what we enjoy. We're immensely grateful for the blessing of financial success—but that, in itself, wasn't the goal. We know that money alone will never satisfy. We see money as a tool, not an end. What counts is how it is used for eternal purposes.
When Glennis and I were in our early twenties, living with our three young children in a two-bedroom apartment, we lived from paycheck to paycheck. But I remember how good it was, on a sticky summer evening, when we'd buy a gallon of chocolate ice cream from the market down the street, invite the neighbors, break out our best plastic spoons, and make it an event. I still can't think of a greater pleasure.
Our economic situation doesn't determine our priorities in life. Real treasures aren't found in the wallet. They're rooted in the most essential relationships we enjoy as human beings: our bond to God, to our families, and the friends and colleagues around us, whatever season of life we're in.

My Response: Where are my real treasures found?
Thought to Apply: He has achieved success who's lived well, laughed often, and loved much.
