Driver's Seat Theme of the Week: Who's at the Controls? Michael Phillips Thursday, July 22, 2004

Key Bible Verse: "For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do what I want" (John 6:38). Bonus Reading:Luke 22:39—46
"Just graduated from college, two friends and I went on a long-planned trip to Europe for the summer. We mostly worked on the farm of friends I'd made two years before.
I was at a youthful crossroads with several options on the horizon. One day, driving my VW bug south through Norway on our way back to Germany after two weeks in the north—one friend beside me, another in the back seat—I found myself reviewing these situations: job, money, schooling, marriage, relationships, ministry, even whether to return home at the end of the summer. I didn't know what was best, even what I wanted to do. After thinking each situation through, I found myself saying, "Here, Lord—I don't know what to with this. I put it into Your hands. Do Your will in this area of my life."
My friends and I carried on our occasional conversations, laughing and talking together. They knew nothing of what was tumbling through my mind and heart. As daylight faded, I felt a lightness come over me. I'd turned each of these concerns over to God. I'd wanted to rid myself of these burdens. I was no longer holding on to them. It felt liberating. My Response: Do I see a crossroads ahead? Am I prepared to put it in God's hands?
Thought to Apply: Consecration is handing God a blank sheet to fill in with your name signed at the bottom.

Christ, I realize I can't both call You Lord and continue to act as manager of my life. I'm ready to submit to Your authority.
