I love chocolate pie. In fact, there are only two kinds of pie I like—hot pie and cold pie. But if I were describing chocolate pie to you and you've never tasted it, I'd just have to tell you to try it for yourself.
The Pharisees knew the Old Testament Scriptures from cover to cover. But Jesus pointed out to them that it's possible to know the Word of God without knowing the God of the Word. Knowing the stories and keeping the rules weren't enough. Although Jesus explained the Old Testament symbols, prophecies, and laws that pertained to Him, the Pharisees still didn't recognize Him as the promised Messiah.
It was almost like their knowledge and their good deeds stood in the way of their placing simple, childlike faith in Christ. Their knowledge blinded them from seeing the Messiah when He stood right in front of them. They thought they had God all figured out intellectually, but didn't take that all-important step of testing Him, trying Him, and trusting Him for themselves.
Experience the real God for yourself by putting your life—your entire life—into His hands.
