Bolt of Lightning Theme of the Week: Slipknot Debra Fieguth Friday, October 15, 2004

Key Bible Verse: This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one (Genesis 2:24). Bonus Reading:Genesis 2:18–25
Lesley Hughes was taking Emily swimming one hot August day when her four year old asked her, "Why do people get married?"
"Because they love each other and want to have a family together," her mom replied.
Emily thought a moment before driving the logic to its conclusion: "So you and Dad-dy don't love each other and don't want more babies."
"I stopped the car because I realized she was smarter than I," says Lesley. "We didn't even go to the pool. We went home." She remembers going straight to her partner, Greg Furholter, and saying, "We have to get married."
The Montreal couple had gotten engaged young, lived together for a decade, and had two kids. Emily's question made them realize they needed to make their commitment official and public.
They'd been attending Westview Bible Church, mostly for social reasons. When they approached pastor David Knight about marrying them, recalls Lesley, "I thought he'd marry us within a week." In-stead he counseled them for six weeks first, "teaching us about God-centered homes and relationships." Soon after the wedding, both made commitments to follow Jesus.

My Response: What must I commit to to create a God-centered home?
Thought to Apply: There is, hidden or flaunted, a sword between the sexes till an entire marriage reconciles them.
