Blind Trust Theme of the Week: Who Can You Trust? Patrick Morley Wednesday, October 27, 2004
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Bonus Reading:Proverbs 16:9 ; 19:21 ; 20:24
A sales executive hasn't opened a trade magazine or attended a seminar in years; he isn't motivated to gain a first-rate understanding of his product and develop new applications for his customers. He masks disappointment with his sales performance with that common refrain, "I'm just trusting in the Lord." But like many, his "trust" is only a cover for mediocrity.
Does [today's Key Bible Verse] mean we fly blind? Of course not. To not depend on your own understanding, you must have taken the time to build one upon which you don't depend. Knowledgeable experts bring God honor.
The risk is to understand so well that we stop trusting. It's a delicate balance. Learn all you can in your field, but always trust the Lord for direction. Trust Him with 100 percent of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Once you make every reasonable effort to understand your situation and give your personal best, then don't fret one iota over the outcome.
By looking to God and not to men as the source of your supply, you'll fulfill the challenge: "Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:6).
—Patrick Morley in Walking with Christ
My Response: Which threatens my balance more—self-reliance or neglectful trust?
Thought to Apply: Skill and confidence are an unconquered army.
—George Herbert (English poet)
