Weekend Wrap-up Theme of the Week: Who Can You Trust? Saturday, October 30, 2004
 1 of 1

Much of David's life, while on the run from a vengeful King Saul, was in a state of constant upheaval. But in this psalm two of his convictions come through clearly: David delighted in relating to God, and was confident that the delight was mutual! And because David had entrusted everything to God's control and guidance, he was confident that God would continue to reciprocate with unfailing commitment to him. Interact with God's Word
Psalm 37:3–5 , 18–19 , 23–25 , 39–40
- How does the psalm writer describe (in vv. 3-5) the person who experiences safety and prosperity?
- How do the gifts God gives relate to what we delight in?
- How are immediate and ultimate concerns linked (v. 18)?
- Does God promise exemption from tough times (v. 19)? What does He promise?
- Does God promise a smooth path (vv. 23–24)? What does He promise?
- What can a veteran God-follower tell younger disciples about God's reliability (v. 25)?
Spend Time in Prayer
Thank God that He delights in every detail of your life. Ask Him to provide the shelter you need for the storms you face.
Psalm 37:3–5 , 18–19 , 23–25 , 39–40
3 Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. 4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. 5 Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
18 Day by day the LORD takes care of the innocent, and they will receive a reward that lasts forever. 19 They will survive through hard times; even in famine they will have more than enough.
23 The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives. 24 Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. 25 Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly forsaken, nor seen their children begging for bread.
39 The LORD saves the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble. 40 The LORD helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him.
