Weekend Wrap-up Theme of the Week: Crooked or Straight? Saturday, September 4, 2004
 1 of 1

Do you recognize your community and workplace in the biblical description of human society? "The greatest evil is not done in those sordid dens of evil that Dickens loved to paint," C. S. Lewis wrote in his introduction to The Screwtape Letters, "but is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clear, carpeted, warmed, well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices." Interact with God's Word
Philippians 2:15
- How have you experienced what Paul calls "a dark world full of crooked and perverse people" at your job? How has this played out in your community? What perverseness have you observed in your nation?
- What does living a "clean, innocent" life as a child of God involve for you in your situation? Can you give a specific example?
- Are there actions you could take that would cause your life to shine more brightly in your setting? What about words you could say?
Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God to reveal to you how your life and conversation should make you shine against your dark backdrop. Ask for the courage and grace to make this both compelling and attractive.
Philippians 2:15
15so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them.
