Magnetic Field Theme of the Week: Take God to Work Jeffrey Leever Thursday, September 9, 2004

Key Bible Verse: Truth stands the test of time; lies are soon exposed (Proverbs 12:19). Bonus Reading:1 Peter 2:12 ; 3:15–16
"Well you haven't lied to me yet," Steve, my coworker at an electronics store, said. Steve and I hadn't worked together for very long, and I was trying to pass on to him details of a unique, upcoming store promotion when he made this comment.
Curious, I asked why he'd find that noteworthy. As we talked, it was clear he thought there was something different about me; something he couldn't quite put his finger on. I got the sense he'd never seen workplace integrity dem-onstrated before and didn't really know what to call it.
I realized something key: The world thirsts for people who will live with integrity. Nonchurchgoers want to be around people who won't lie to them. Integrity is—or should be—one of the best things men who follow Christ have to offer the world. Not the selective, situational, occasionally-stretch-the-truth-to-cover-myself kind, but the biblical kind.
We don't have to worry much about preaching the gospel overtly. If we're living right, people will notice. Truth stands up well under scrutiny 100 percent of the time. Working with integrity in our actions and words acts as a magnet for Christ.

My Response: A time my integrity was put on the line at my workplace was …
Thought to Apply: Above all, I would like to ring true.
—G. K. Chesterton (English writer)
