Men of Integrity November/December 2004 Weekend Wrap-up Theme of the Week: 'Be Silent, and Know…' Saturday, December 4 7 6

David was hiding out from his enemies in the Cave of Adullam or on the run in the hill country of Ziph when he wrote this psalm. Saul hunted him day after day in these badland cliffs and canyons west of the Dead Sea. Whether on the run or lying low, David no doubt experienced powerful physical thirst in this no-man's land. That thirst provided him with a natural metaphor to powerfully express in words his intense spiritual desire.

Interact with God's Word

Psalm 63:1-8

In what ways is spiritual longing like physical thirst (v. 1) or hunger (v. 5)? Have you have ever experienced a craving like this? What three qualities of God does David say quenched and satisfied his deepest yearnings (vv. 2-3)? In what five actions of his (vv. 2-6) does David mention experiencing God's presence? As David meditates about God, which of His actions does he single out for praise (vv. 7-8)? Spend Time in Prayer

Ask God for the discipline to cut back on the mental "junk food" in your life, freeing you up for nutrition from solid servings of His presence.

Psalm 63:1-8

1O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 3Your unfailing love is better to me than life itself; how I praise you!

4I will honor you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. 5You satisfy me more than the richest of foods. I will praise you with songs of joy. 66I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.

7I think how much you have helped me; I sing for joy in the shadow of your protecting wings. 8I follow close behind you; your strong right hand holds me securely.

0Prayer for the Week

If I'm to really meet with You daily, Lord, I need to create space for that encounter. Please show me how.
