Who Said It
Mart is president of Michigan-based RBC Ministries. His grandfather, M. R. De Haan—a gravelly voiced physician who later in life became a pastor—launched the ministry in 1938 from a small radio station. Mart's father, Richard, continued to broadcast the Radio Bible Class and publish the Our Daily Bread devotional. Mart is known for his kindness and for communicating God's Word accurately and clearly. Under his leadership, RBC also publishes books and Sports Spectrum magazine. What He Said
If you've ever tried to water ski, you know how the water resists you before you get up on the surface. You grab the rope while the boat's engine roars, your muscles strain, and the water does everything it can to keep you down. But if you know how to take advantage of the boat's power, you allow it to lift you up—to overcome the resistance. Within a few seconds, you're skimming on the surface of the same water that at first held you back.
Going through the deep waters of life's difficulties is like water skiing. At first there's great struggle as we hang on with all our might to some important promise of God. The weight of our own weakness seems almost unbearable. But like the water that lifts the skis, our difficulties challenge us to draw on God's supernatural power. If we recognize that it's His power, not ours, that keeps us afloat, we'll be much better off.
