Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: What Model Are You?
Saturday, November 13, 2004

A loudspeaker system makes it possible for a large audience to easily understand a speaker's message. But sometimes line hum or feedback actually distorts the speaker's words.

Similarly, our actions either amplify or undercut our words. If I want someone to act a certain way, it isn't enough to tell him so. I need to be sure that I'm acting that way myself. Then I've earned the right to be heard, and my life reinforces what I'm saying.

Interact with God's Word

Titus 2:6–14

  1. How does Paul say Titus can be an example to young men who are observing him (v. 7)?

  2. How can what we tell others we believe be placed above criticism (vv. 7–8)?

  3. How can we make the gospel attractive in our workplaces (vv. 9–10)?

  4. According to v. 12, what should mark our lifestyles as believers?

  5. What does Paul say are the driving forces behind the disciplined conduct he is calling for (vv. 13–14)?
Spend Time in Prayer

Ask God to help you live a life that won't cause other believers to stumble and that will act as a magnet for those not yet part of God's family.

Titus 2:6–14

6 In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely in all they do. 7And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good deeds of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. 8Let your teaching be so correct that it can't be criticized. Then those who want to argue will be ashamed because they won't have anything bad to say about us.

9 Slaves must obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back 10or steal, but they must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way. 11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.

12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with self-control, right conduct, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward to that wonderful event when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. 14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing what is right.
