Key Bible Verse: The Lord is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge (1 Timothy 4:12). Bonus Reading: Psalm 91:1—16

The phone at the end of the hall in my college dorm finally became free. I stepped into the booth, closed the door, and turned my face toward the back for privacy.

When I left home at the age of 17, I was, for all intents and purposes, on my own from then on. Although I had a great upbringing and a solid, supportive family, I'm one of those people who likes to do things without having to count on a lot of other people. So I was sure that I could accomplish growing up at college without needing any advice from Mom or Dad back at home. Boy, was I wrong!

"Hello."

I heard my parents pick up the phone, and I began to cry. A romance in ruins had turned me into a young man much in need of comfort and advice. Fifteen minutes later, I emerged from the phone booth calmer and wiser. My last words to my parents were, "I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. I'll see you this weekend."

How long has it been since you've come to God, spent time with Him, and listened to Him? Stay away from His presence too long and your heart grows cold. You begin to lose your way.

As [today's Key Bible Verse] insists, God is a strong refuge.

My Response: Am I satisfied with the frequency of my one-on-one time with God?

0Prayer for the Week

If I'm to really meet with You daily, Lord, I need to create space for that encounter. Please show me how.
