Who Said It
Henry Blackaby is a pastor who has served churches in California and Canada since 1958. He became prominent as a writer with Experiencing God, a book he co-authored with Claude King. He has served as a college president and a special assistant in several Southern Baptist Convention departments. He now travels as a speaker. He and his wife, Marilynn, are based in Atlanta, Georgia. They have five married children and 13 grandchildren. What He Said
The first people who ought to see us as authentic Christians are our children. My sons once said to me, "Dad, I don't think you realize how many times we could have gone off track, but we just couldn't bring ourselves to hurt you and Mom that way."
I replied, "Well, the reverse is true too. There were many times your dad could have done the wrong things, but I just couldn't hurt you boys." I've withheld from doing things and moving in certain directions in my life because I knew it would influence my children.
Scripture says that the sins of the father will be passed on to the children and the grandchildren. I'm totally convinced this is true. The chance my children and grandchildren have may well rest on my walk with God. So I'd better make the Kingdom of God my primary concern. Then I'll stand out among my peers as one who knows God and trusts him with my life and the lives of my family.
