Preventing a Fall
Theme of the Week: Purity Guardrails

Who Said It…Dave Davidson

Dave is a photographer in Iowa. He and his brother Dan, a chiropractor in Virginia, are both inspirational speakers and missions mobilizers on the side. They collaborated in producing God's Great Ambition and at least 19 other books. They also operate a web ministry, www.SurgeUp.com, and record verbatim Scripture songs. Dave challenges everyone he meets to tithe a percent of his life by assisting the missionary enterprise.

What He Said…Preventing a Fall

From the corner of my eye, I noticed a cabinet full of glass lamp fixtures start to fall. My four-year-old son, Nathan, had accidentally tipped it forward toward his one-year-old brother, Joshua, who was playing in front of it.

I watched, horrified, as the cabinet seemed to stop in mid-air, hanging diagonally to the floor. Even the light fixtures dodged Joshua as they bounced around him. Was this my imagination or a miracle?

The cabinet was indeed suspended, thanks to a bungee cord that I had attached years earlier from the cabinet to the ceiling. Praise the Lord! The boys were safe. To my relief, God had given me wisdom to take preventative measures to protect my family from potential danger.

Consider your purity in the same way. The more boundaries and safety nets you put in place now, the easier it will be for you to remain pure. In the future, when you've successfully avoided temptation because of decisions you make and commit to today, you and your family will be praising the Lord too!

Adapted from Surviving Temptation Island (New Leaf, 2001) by permission.

0Prayer for the Week

Your Word says that You bless those whose hearts are pure. Grant me the willpower to become and remain inwardly pure.
