Key Bible Verse: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." But we know these things… (1 Corinthians 2:9-10). Bonus Reading:John 13:31-14:3
When I anticipate my first glimpse of heaven, I think of the first time I went snorkeling. Etched in my memory is the sound of my gasp as my eyes took in the breathtaking underwater scene. Venturing out into 60-foot water, so clear I had the sensation of falling, I could see fish far below as if only a few feet away. Countless fish of every shape, size, and color. And just when I thought I'd seen the most beautiful, along came another even more striking.
For most of my life I'd never thought about that underwater world. But I fell in love with it that week. Now underwater pictures hang on my office wall, and I often find myself thinking of that world.
I imagine our first glimpse of heaven will cause us to gasp in amazement and delight. That gasp is likely to be followed by many more as we continually encounter new sights. We get a glimmer of this from the things revealed to us by God's Spirit in His Word. It doesn't tell us everything, but if we look carefully, it tells us a great deal.
Why will heaven be so beautiful and wonderful? Because the One who's prepared it for us is so skillful and creative.
